Specifications
Scientific Background
CACNA1F encodes a voltage-sensitive calcium channel (VSCC) that mediates calcium ion entry into excitable cells and participates in various calcium-dependent processes, including muscle contraction, hormone/neurotransmitter release, gene expression, cell motility, division, and death. The alpha-1F isoform generates L-type calcium currents, classified as 'high-voltage activated' (HVA), and is blocked by dihydropyridines (DHP), phenylalkylamines, and benzothiazepines. It activates at more negative voltages and lacks calcium-dependent inactivation (CDI) during depolarization despite calcium influx. By similar function: Voltage-dependent L-type calcium channels activate at more hyperpolarized voltages and exhibit robust CDI during depolarizations due to calcium ion influx.
Synonyms
CACNA1F; CACNAF1; Voltage-dependent L-type calcium channel subunit alpha-1F ; Voltage-gated calcium channel subunit alpha Cav1.4;
