Scientific Background
CALD1 is an actin- and myosin-binding protein implicated in regulating actomyosin interactions in smooth muscle and nonmuscle cells (potentially acting as a bridge between myosin and actin filaments). It stimulates tropomyosin binding to actin, thereby stabilizing actin filament structure. In muscle tissues, CALD1 inhibits actomyosin ATPase activity by binding to F-actin, with this inhibition attenuated by calcium-calmodulin and enhanced by tropomyosin. It interacts with actin, myosin, two tropomyosin molecules, and calmodulin. Additionally, CALD1 plays essential roles in cellular mitosis, receptor capping, and Schwann cell migration during peripheral nerve regeneration (by similar).
