Scientific Background

Caveolin 2 may function as a scaffolding protein within caveolar membranes. It directly interacts with G-protein alpha subunits and can functionally regulate their activity. Acting as an accessory protein in conjunction with CAV1, it targets lipid rafts and drives caveolae formation. The Ser-36 phosphorylated form plays a role in modulating mitosis in endothelial cells. As a positive regulator of cellular mitogenesis in the MAPK signaling pathway, it is required for insulin-stimulated nuclear translocation and activation of MAPK1 and STAT3, as well as subsequent regulation of cell cycle progression (By similarity).
