Scientific Background
BCL11B is a key regulator of T-lymphocyte differentiation and survival during thymocyte development in mammals. It controls hematopoietic stem cell responsiveness to chemotactic signals by modulating CCR7 and CCR9 receptor expression, directing progenitor cell migration from bone marrow to thymus. Additionally, BCL11B regulates the IL2 promoter and enhances IL2 expression in activated CD4(+) T-lymphocytes. As a tumor suppressor, it represses transcription through direct, TFCOUP2-independent binding to GC-rich response elements (by similarity). It may also function in the P53-signaling pathway (by similarity).
