Scientific Background

FGFR2 is a tyrosine-protein kinase that functions as a cell-surface receptor for fibroblast growth factors (FGFs) and is essential for regulating cell proliferation, differentiation, migration, apoptosis, and embryonic development. It is critically involved in embryonic patterning, trophoblast function, limb bud development, lung morphogenesis, osteogenesis, and skin development. FGFR2 phosphorylates substrates like PLCG1, FRS2, and PAK4 to activate downstream signaling cascades including the RAS-MAPK and AKT1 pathways, while its signaling is negatively regulated by ubiquitination, internalization, and degradation. Constitutive activation mutations or impaired maturation cause aberrant signaling, and overexpression promotes STAT1 activation. by similar: The protein stimulates proliferation in keratinocytes and immature osteoblasts but induces apoptosis in differentiated osteoblasts.
