CD61 is a component of integrin α-V/β-3 (ITGAV:ITGB3) and α-IIb/β-3 (ITGA2B:ITGB3). ITGAV:ITGB3 serves as a receptor for various ligands, including cytotactin, fibronectin, laminin, matrix metalloproteinase-2, osteopontin, osteomodulin, prothrombin, thrombospondin, vitronectin, and von Willebrand factor, and is involved in signaling mediated by CX3CL1, NRG1, FGF1, FGF2, IGF1, IGF2, IL1B, PLA2G2A, FBN1, and CD40LG. ITGA2B:ITGB3 primarily recognizes fibronectin, fibrinogen, plasminogen, prothrombin, thrombospondin, and vitronectin, and mediates platelet aggregation upon activation (By similarity).
