LYVE1 is a ligand-specific transporter that facilitates trafficking between intracellular organelles (e.g., TGN) and the plasma membrane. It plays a role in autocrine regulation of cell growth via growth regulators containing cell surface retention sequence binding (CRS). LYVE1 may function as a hyaluronan (HA) transporter, either mediating its uptake for degradation within lymphatic endothelial cells or transporting it into the lumen of afferent lymphatic vessels for subsequent re-uptake and degradation in lymph nodes. Additionally, LYVE1 binds to pericellular hyaluronan matrices on leukocyte surfaces, promoting cell adhesion and migration through lymphatic endothelium.
