Scientific Background

Lamin B1 binds to cells via a high-affinity receptor and is thought to mediate cell attachment, migration, and tissue organization during embryonic development by interacting with other extracellular matrix components. It plays a role in organizing the laminar architecture of the cerebral cortex and is likely essential for the integrity of the basement membrane/glia limitans, which serves as an anchor point for radial glial cell endfeet and a physical barrier for migrating neurons. Radial glial cells are central to cerebral cortical development, functioning both as proliferative units and scaffolds for neuronal migration toward the pial surface.
