NFIB is a transcriptional activator that specifically recognizes and binds to the palindromic sequence 5'-TTGGCNNNNNGCCAA-3', present in viral and cellular promoters as well as the origin of replication of adenovirus type 2. It is essential for the transcriptional activation of GFAP and proper brain development. These proteins are individually capable of activating transcription and replication.
