PTBP2 is an RNA-binding protein that binds to intronic polypyrimidine tracts and mediates negative regulation of exon splicing. It may antagonize, in a tissue-specific manner, the ability of NOVA1 to activate exon selection. In addition to its role in pre-mRNA splicing, PTBP2 also functions in the regulation of translation; by similar: its affinity for RNA is reduced.
