Scientific Background

The glutamine and serine-rich protein 1 (QSER1) gene is located on human chromosome 11. A single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) near theQSER1locus has been associated with older age onset Parkinson’s disease through genome-wide association studies (1), and exome sequencing has suggested QSER1 could potentially serve as a marker of type 2 diabetes (2). More recently, it was shown that QSER1 cooperates with TET1 to protect DNA methylation valleys fromde novomethylation mediated by DNMT3 (3). Recent reports have also found that QSER1 tends to be upregulated in multiple cancers, and this upregulation is associated with poor clinic outcomes (4,5).Latourelle, J.C. et al.
