Scientific Background

Rad18 is an E3 ubiquitin-protein ligase involved in postreplication repair of UV-damaged DNA. It functions in gap-filling of the daughter strand during replication of damaged DNA. Rad18 associates with the E2 ubiquitin conjugating enzyme UBE2B to form the UBE2B-RAD18 ubiquitin ligase complex, which mediates mono-ubiquitination of DNA-associated PCNA at 'Lys-164'. Additionally, Rad18 exhibits ssDNA binding activity.

Synonyms
