Scientific Background

SLFN12 is a ribonuclease involved in an E2/17β-estradiol-induced pro-apoptotic signaling pathway. E2 stabilizes the cytosolic PDE3A/SLFN12 complex, promoting SLFN12 dephosphorylation and activating its pro-apoptotic ribosomal RNA/rRNA ribonuclease activity. This apoptotic pathway may be relevant in tissues with high E2 concentrations, such as during placenta remodeling. Additionally, SLFN12 might play a role in cell differentiation. By similar studies, its function is linked to E2 signaling and apoptosis regulation.
