Scientific Background

Surfeit Locus Protein 4 is an endoplasmic reticulum cargo receptor that facilitates lipoprotein export by recruiting cargos into COPII vesicles for secretion. It acts as a cargo receptor for lipoproteins bearing APOB and APOA1, regulating lipoprotein delivery and lipid homeostasis maintenance. It synergizes with the GTPase SAR1B to mediate the transport of circulating lipoproteins and promotes the secretion of PCSK9 and erythropoietin (EPO). It may also play a role in maintaining the architecture of the endoplasmic reticulum-Golgi intermediate compartment (ERGIC) and the Golgi. by similar: Cooperates with GTPase SAR1B for lipoprotein transport; enhances secretion of PCSK9 and EPO; potentially involved in ERGIC and Golgi structure maintenance.
