TERF1 is a protein that binds to the telomeric double-stranded 5'-TTAGGG-3' repeat and negatively regulates telomere length. It participates in the regulation of the mitotic spindle and is a component of the shelterin complex (or telosome), which modulates telomere length and provides protection.
