Scientific Background
TUBB1 is one of the major components of tubulin, which forms microtubules—cylindrical structures composed of laterally associated linear protofilaments made of α- and β-tubulin heterodimers. Microtubules grow by adding GTP-tubulin dimers to their ends, forming a stabilizing cap. Below this cap, tubulin dimers remain in a GDP-bound state due to the GTPase activity of α-tubulin.
