CD164 has both adhesive and antiadhesive functions and serves as a potent negative regulator for CD34+ CD38- hematopoietic progenitor cell proliferation, and is also involved in myogenic differentiation and cancer metastasis. It's adhesive and negative regulatory functions seem to be influenced by different post-translational modifications.
